How you can help
- Use environmentally safe cleaning products instead of hard detergents and cleaners that can damage sewer lines.
- Scrape leftover food scraps from dishes into trash cans.
- Avoid using your garbage disposal. Cover the kitchen sink drain with a catch basin and empty into a trash can.
- Keep sewers FAT FREE.
Wipes Block Everything
DON'T TRUST THE "FLUSHABLE" LABEL! Even products labeled "flushable" can clog your sewer line because their plastic fibers don't break down quickly. Wipes are designed to be strong and not break down when wet. Because of this, they don't break down in the pipes like toilet paper does. These wipes can cause major blockages in your own home pipes, or farther down the line at the water treatment facility. This includes baby wipes, bathroom wipes, facial or cosmetic wipes, personal hygiene wipes, disinfecting wipes, floor cleaning or dusting wipes, and toilet bowl scrub pads.
Just don't flush wipes - plain and simple. Don't do it. They belong in the trash.
