Cats Indoors

As you cultivate your bird-friendly yard, removing various threats and predators can increase the likelihood of seeing more feathered guests at your feeders and birdbaths.

Domestic cats, initially introduced to the United States with European colonists, have steadily tripled in their population over the past 50 years. While domestic cats can be a wonderful addition to any family, feral and outdoor cats kill approximately 2.4 billion birds every year in the United States, making them the leading cause of bird deaths along with other wildlife species.

What are some ways to encourage your cats to stay indoors?

  1. Build a Catio - Learn more here - Catio Spaces
  2. Use a harness or backpack when outside
  3. Get creative with indoor enrichment opportunities
