Native Plants for Birds

Why native plants? Native plants occur naturally in a region that it has evolved. They have co-evolved and developed relationships with native birds, insects and wildlife.

The use of native plants in your landscaping will attract and protect the birds and pollinators that you love. This effort will also beautify your space, making it easier to care for, and save you money.

Native plants provide habitat for the more than 600 species of birds that migrate through Texas every year. A diversity of habitat provides safety, nesting sites, and food. A native oak tree can support over 500 species of caterpillars compared to non-native trees like Bradford Pear. Chickadees raising young birds in the spring, need 6,000 - 9,000 caterpillars to successfully raise a single clutch.

Audubon Plants for Birds explains how native plants supports birds in your area.
