Volunteer and Community Service Opportunities
INFORMATION ON VOLUNTEERING

If you are interested in volunteering at the shelter, please complete this application or pick one up at the shelter.  A completed application and ID must be received before signing up for one of the monthly orientations.

If you are interested in doing community service for school, please fill out this application or pick it up at the shelter.  A completed application and ID must be received before signing up for one of the monthly orientations.

For court community service or restitution, please see the section below.

Volunteer and Student Community Service hours are scheduled in two-hour increments Monday through Friday as early as 10 a.m. and as late as 6 p.m. Once a volunteer has worked two weekdays, he or she may schedule hours on Saturday or Sunday. We also have opportunities for volunteers at off-site events such as Petsmart and other locations in the DFW area.

* You must be at least 16 years old and have a parent/guardian's signature on the waiver.  Both volunteer and guardian must show Driver's License or State ID if volunteer is younger than 18, and the parent or guardian needs to also attend the orientation.

* If you are at least 18 years old then you will need to sign the waiver along with bringing a copy of your Driver's License or State ID.

*WELCOME YOUNG VOLUNTEERS!!!!!  We are now accepting volunteers as young as 10 years!  If you are 10 to 15 years old, you must always have a guardian with you who is also a volunteer.  We will need your volunteer application, as well as one from your guardian, and your guardian must bring their Driver's License of State ID.

COURT COMMUNITY SERVICE AND RESTITUTION


If you are interested in volunteering with us in order to complete hours required for court, please fill out this application or pick one up at the shelter and submit it to begin scheduling your volunteer hours.

* You must be at least 16 years old and have a parent/guardian's signature on the waiver, along with bringing a copy of both your and their Drivers License or State ID.  Both volunteer and guardian must show Driver's License or State ID if volunteer is younger than 18, and the parent or guardian needs to be in attendance when volunteer submits their application and schedules their first shift.

UPCOMING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES


*****THE SHELTER IS IN NEED OF NEWSPAPERS USED TO LINE CAT AND DOG CAGES! IF YOU HAVE NEWSPAPERS TO DONATE, PLEASE DROP THEM OFF AT THE SHELTER AT 1150 E. PLEASANT RUN RD IN CEDAR HILL. PLEASE RECYCLE FLYERS AND CIRCULARS AT HOME AS WE ARE UNABLE TO USE THEM IN THE CAGES.*****

TRANSPORTERS NEEDED!!!!

Can you drive? Are you retired? Do you work from home? Do you have a little bit of spare time to help an animal in need? If any of these apply...WE NEED YOU!!!! We need volunteers who are available to transport orphaned wildlife, injured birds, or dogs and cats to various wildlife centers or rescue facilities around the metroplex. If you are interested, please call the shelter at 972-291-5335.


SPECIAL EVENTS AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

-Foster Families: We are in need of some foster families to care for puppies and kittens that are too young to go up for adoption

-Front Desk: Answering phones, data entry, filing, customer service

-Lobby: Hosts and greeters to help answer questions and show customers around

-Transporters: Needed to help drive pets to other adoption facilities, or to the vet, and injured wildlife to rehabilitation centers (vehicle can be provided)


MONTHLY VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION 

 When: Sunday, April 6, 2014, 2pm-3pm (space still available) 
                               AND 
Sunday, April, 27, 2014, 2pm-3pm (note: was originally sceduled for 20th)

 Where: Tri-City Animal Shelter & Adoption Center, 1150 E. Pleasant Run Rd., Cedar Hill
 

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or need to complete community service for school, you must submit your ID and volunteer application before signing up to attend one of our two monthly volunteer orientations, which are held the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month. You must be at least 10 years of age to volunteer. Please bring your ID, a guardian's ID if you are under 18, and a completed volunteer or student application, which you can pick up at the shelter or print out online on the Cedar Hill website under the animal shelter volunteer section. If you are under 16 years of age, your guardian must also be a volunteer and present. Hope to see you there!


 PET ADOPTION FAIR AT DUNCANVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY

 When: Saturday, April 26, 2014, 12pm-4pm 

 Where: 201 James Collins Blvd, Duncanville, TX 

 Come out and meet some of the pets that are available for adoption! Last year's adoption fair was a great success!


 PETSMART CHARITIES' NATIONAL ADOPTION WEEKEND 

When: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, 2014. Time: all day, specific time TBA 

Where: 2525 W. Wheatland Rd in Duncanville 

Come out and meet some of the pets that are available for adoption at PetSmarts National Adoption Weekend! There will be many organizations, including Tri-City Animal Shelter at this special event and the goal is to find homes for 80-100 pets. For every pet adopted, PetSmart Charities will donate $35 to the respective pet organization. Thanks, PetSmart Charities!
