Purpose of the Program: The Downtown Outdoor Improvements Program, part of the Economic Development toolbox, is a new initiative designed to help retail and commercial property owners restore and enhance the exterior of their buildings in the downtown area. This program aligns with key city objectives outlined in the Comprehensive Plan, Uptown Overlay, Economic Development Corporation (EDC), and Tourism Strategic Plan. It focuses on encouraging private investment to improve the street-side appearance of shops, restaurants, and businesses. By enhancing downtown aesthetics, attracting more business activity, promoting tourism, and bringing building facades into code compliance, the program supports the city's broader goals of fostering economic vitality, creating a vibrant destination, and preserving the community's unique character. All applications will be considered on a case‐by‐case basis and are subject to available funds.
