Election Information
The next City of Cedar Hill General Election to elect City Council Members is Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The Places that will be up for election are Place 2 and Place 6.
Important Dates associated with the May 2, 2026 General Election
January 14, 2026 - First Day to File an Application for a Place on the Ballot
January 19, 2026 - City Offices Closed - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
February 13, 2026, by 5 p.m. - Last Day to File an Application for a Place on the Ballot
April 2, 2026 - Last Day to Register to Vote (in the May 2026 Election)
April 3, 2026 - City Offices Closed - Good Friday
April 20-28, 2026 - Early Voting Period (In-Person)
May 2, 2026 - ELECTION DAY
May 5-13, 2026 - Official Canvass Period
Application packets will be available for pick up by January 9, 2026 in the City Secretary's Office located on the 4th Floor of the Cedar Hill Government Center, 285 Uptown Blvd. Bldg. 100, Cedar Hill, TX 75104. Office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Qualifications to Run for Office
- Must be a United States Citizen
- Must be a registered voter in the City of Cedar Hill at the time of filing candidate application
- Must be a resident of the state of Texas for 12 months and are resident of the City of Cedar Hill for 6 months preceding the deadline to file a candidate application
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of filing candidate application
- Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated; or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote
- Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities
- Candidates must be nominated by a petition, in lieu of a filing fee. Petitions must be signed by at least 25 registered voters of the City of Cedar Hill
- Application and Petition Forms must be filed together by the filing deadline with the City Secretary
- Must satisfy any other requirements prescribed by law
Candidate Residency Requirements
In accordance with the City's Charter, please note the following additional candidate residency requirements by Place.
Mayor and City Council Places One and Four: Candidates must reside within the corporate city limits of the City of Cedar Hill.
City Council Places Two and Three: Candidates must reside on the west side of U.S. Highway 67, within the corporate city limits of the City of Cedar Hill, in either Dallas or Ellis County.
City Council Places Five and Six: Candidates must reside on the east side of U.S. Highway 67, within the corporate city limits of the City of Cedar Hill, in either Dallas or Ellis County.
All places are elected at large.
Voter Registration Information
Dallas County Voters
State law requires you to register at least 30 days prior to the election in which you want to participate. Voter registration applications must be received in the County Voter Registrar's Office or postmarked 30 days before an election in order for you to be eligible to vote in that election. Applicants must met all of the following requirements:
- Are a United States citizen
- Are a resident of Dallas County
- Are at least 17 years, 10 months of age to apply (must be 18 years to vote)
- Have not been declared totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction
- Not finally convicted of a felony, or, if so convicted must have (1) fully discharged the sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court; or (2) been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote

Ellis County Voters
