Proposition A: Streets & Drainage
Voters approved $10 million in general obligation bonds for infrastructure improvements, including roadway and drainage, traffic signals, street lighting, intersection upgrades, and landscaping along US-67. These projects will be initiated over a period of 5 to 7 years.
Street Lighting Improvements
In September 2019, median street lights were installed on three major roadways: E. Joe Wilson Road, Belt Line Road, and Parkerville Road.
The City completed design and easement acquisitions for the Texas Street & Hardy Street Drainage Project, which is an extension of underground drainage system from Belt Line Road to the intersection of Texas Street and Hardy Street. The Construction contract will be awarded on July 14, 2020. Construction is expected to commence August 2020.
Design has been completed on the enhanced landscaping and entry monument signage for US-67. The proposed location of the entry monument is just north of Wintergreen Road at our city limits. Landscaping will be add at the entry monument and at the intersection of F.M. 1382 and US-67. Construction will begin once the highway widening project is completed.
The City completed the design of N. Joe Wilson Road from US-67 to Clover Hill Lane to improve access to the neighboring subdivision. Phase 1 of the project has been completed in coordination with Fuel City. The City is now moving forward with Phase 2 which will included the widening of N. Joe Wilson Road to include a center turn lane and a dedicated right turn lane from the frontage road to northbound N. Joe Wilson Road. The design is complete and the franchise utilities are in the process of moving their underground infrastructure. This project is scheduled for construction in the fall 2020.
Concrete & Asphalt Repairs
In FY2018-19, the City completed $1.5 million in street repairs and preventative maintenance. Concrete and asphalt repairs are prioritized based on a 2017 pavement management study, which evaluated street conditions. Similar to the scope of work completed in 2018, the City has budgeted $1.0 million for asphalt and concrete street repairs. The selection of streets will occur in the summer 2020, and construction will be scheduled for the fall.
The City recently completed the reconstruction of Bear Creek Road from Joe Wilson Road to Cockrell Hill Road.
The City is in the process of implementing two signal light projects:
• Wintergreen Road & New Clark Intersection: This project is jointly funded by the City and the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT). The project has been designed and awaiting approval from TXDOT to move forward with bidding, construction contract approval and construction. This project will move to construction in the fall 2020.
• N. Joe Wilson Road and Weaver Street Intersection: This signal light project is funded by the City of Cedar Hill. The design of signal lights is complete. This project will be advertised in July with a construction start date of September 2020.
