Books and materials not owned by the Zula B. Wylie Library may be available through the Interlibrary Loan process. Interlibrary Loan is not an instant service and can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks (on average) to receive an item from another library. Items that may not be requested through Interlibrary Loan include vinyl records, microfilm, kits, Library of Things (telescopes, musical instruments, binoculars, etc.), magazines, newspapers, and reference or in-house use only materials.
When the item you requested is received, you will be notified and have 7 days to pick up the item. These items may or may not be renewed, depending on whether the owning library agrees to renew it. Renewals must be requested a week before the item's due date to ensure adequate time for a response.
This service is available to Zula B. Wylie Public Library cardholders only. Those who live in cities other than Cedar Hill must contact their home library to participate in their local Interlibrary Loan service. If you are a Cedar Hill resident and you find an item at a library that is not part of the Best Southwest Partnership (Duncanville Public Library, DeSoto Public Library, or Veterans Memorial Library in Lancaster), you can be issued a TexShare card to check out books at other libraries. However, your library card must be in good standing which includes no fines and it must not be expired. The TexShare card may be used to check out materials from other libraries instead of using the Interlibrary Loan service, as this service may take several weeks.
