At the Cedar Hill City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, Mayor Mason issued two proclamations highlighting community safety and infrastructure. Council Member Chad McCurdy presented a proclamation recognizing April as National Safe Digging Month, urging residents and contractors to call 811 before beginning any digging project to avoid damaging underground utilities. Representatives from Atmos Energy emphasized the importance of this safety measure, sharing real-world examples and encouraging the public to take the 811 safety pledge.
Council Member Gerald Malone followed with a proclamation declaring May as Building Safety Month, which celebrates the professionals who ensure the structural safety of Cedar Hill’s buildings. In recognition of their dedication and service, several employees from the city’s Planning & Development Services team were honored: Gale Lux, Building Official; Andrew Lipscomb, Assistant Building Official; Alexis Sarton, Plans Examiner and Commercial and Residential Inspector; Josh Barnes, Residential and Commercial Building Inspector; Jeremy Peck, Residential and Commercial Inspector; and Samantha DeLeon, Permit Technician. Although DeLeon was unable to attend due to illness, her contributions were acknowledged. The team’s commitment to enforcing building codes and ensuring safe construction was praised, with a special mention of an upcoming public workshop, This Old House, to be held on May 22, aimed at educating residents about building permits and safety practices.
