[ARCHIVED] Unified Development Code Project Officially Underway

valleyridge

The City of Cedar Hill officially launched the Unified Development Code (UDC) project in October 2025 and will continue over the next 30 months. This comprehensive initiative will consolidate and update the City’s zoning, subdivision, and related development regulations into a single, user-friendly document. Once completed, the UDC will modernize our development standards, improve clarity, and align regulations with Cedar Hill’s community values and long-range planning goals.

To support public engagement and transparency throughout the process, the project website is now live at https://fni.mysocialpinpoint.com/cedar-hill-udc. The site serves as the central hub for project information, timelines, and opportunities for community input with a public feedback tool.

The project team, led by Freese and Nichols, Inc., has begun conducting stakeholder interviews with community members and business leaders to gather early feedback on key challenges and opportunities within the current code. In addition, the project team continues to host a series of Developers Roundtable meetings to facilitate discussion among local builders, engineers, and investors about ways to improve efficiency, predictability, and design quality in Cedar Hill’s development processes.

These early engagement activities will inform the diagnostic phase of the project and help ensure the UDC reflects the needs and priorities of both the community and the development community. Staff will continue to provide progress updates as the project advances through future phases of analysis, drafting, and public review.
