The Cedar Hill City Council officially proclaimed March 2025 as Women's History Month during their February 25 meeting. Councilwoman Auzene presented the proclamation, which highlights the city's commitment to celebrating the achievements and contributions of women in the community.
This year's theme, Moving Forward Together: Women Educating and Inspiring Generations, recognizes the impact of women throughout American history, from securing voting rights to advocating for civil rights and breaking barriers in leadership. The city emphasized its dedication to fostering an inclusive environment by spotlighting female authors, hosting women’s business panels, and supporting minority and women-owned enterprises.
Notably, Cedar Hill honored its own history-making leadership, including City Manager Melissa Valadez, the first woman to hold the position. The proclamation reaffirmed the city's ongoing commitment to gender equity and community engagement.
Following the reading of the proclamation, women in the audience were invited to stand in recognition of their contributions. Aranda Bell, a city representative, energized the room with references to cultural icons such as Maya Angelou, Shania Twain, and Beyoncé, celebrating the strength and influence of women.
The city library will host special events throughout March, including author spotlights and a business and leadership panel. Residents are encouraged to participate in the celebrations and explore resources that highlight women’s history.
