We are sad to share that former city council member and longtime community leader Greg Patton passed away last week. Greg and his wife Linda moved to Cedar Hill in 1972, and they have served the community for more than 50 years.
Greg's leadership through the years helped shape the Cedar Hill we love today. He chaired the Home Rule Charter Commission in 1975, which defined the rules and structure of our local government. He represented Cedar Hill in Austin and Washington D.C. in the planning of Joe Pool Lake. Greg was a volunteer firefighter for 20 years, and also served as volunteer emergency manager.
Greg served for 18 years on the Planning & Zoning Commission and was elected to the Cedar Hill City Council in 2000. He served for nine years on the city council where he helped guide much of the modern growth and development of Cedar Hill.
In 2021, the city council recognized Greg with the Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of his many contributions to the community.
Greg's leadership, generosity, and heart for service will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Patton family and the many friends that Greg impacted throughout the years.
