Mon Jan 13 - Join us for Spring into Fitness to hear from Charity Adetiba-Howard and learn tips for getting active in the New Year as well as health snack recipes.  Activities for the whole family.  Refreshments will be provided.  Event is free and will be held at the Zula B Wylie Public library starting at 6:30pm.

Wed Jan 15 - Weatherman says a beautiful day of the week in the 70s.  Get out and enjoy a beautiful day at the Cedar Hill State Park!

Fri Jan 17 - Sat Jan 18 - Take the family to the Stars & S’mores event at Dogwood Canyon Audubon.  Enjoy S’mores around the campfire, stargazing, and guided night hikes into the canyon to check on our nocturnal residents. Other activities include animal encounters, lawn games, free kids’ crafts, and exclusive event-only gift shop discounts.  Spots fill quickly so purchase your tickets now.

Sat Jan 18 - Register for a FREE one-day Keeping Marriages Healthy workshop to strengthen your marriage or set you up for a great future marriage. Event will be held from 8:30am - 5pm at NaKayshions Wedding and Event Center.

Sat Jan 18 - Join us for Bilingual Storytime as we read stories in both English and Spanish.  Fun for the whole family!  Event will be held at Zula B Wylie Public Library at 10:30am.

Sat Jan 18 - As always, remember you can also go hiking with your furry best friend during Dog Day Saturdays at Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center 9 am - 5 pm. Check trail status here.

Mon Jan 20 - Cedar Hill Government Center and all city locations will be closed to observe day of service for Martin Luther King Day.

Tue Dec 31
 - Bring the family for the early countdown to the New Year at the Noon Year's Eve Party and Storytime!  Children of all ages are invited for this free event at the Zula B Wylie Public Library starting at 11am.

Wed Jan 1 - The Government Center, Senior Center, Tri-City Animal Shelter, Alan E. Sims Recreation Center and Zula B. Wylie Public Library will be closed Jan 1 for the holidays. 

Wed Jan 1
 - Join Cedar Hill State Park Rangers for this year's First Day Hike.  What better way to kick off the New Year than by getting a jump start burning off those extra holiday calories in the great outdoors?  Regular park admission applies.

Four hikes will be conducted, choose your difficulty:

New Year, New Trail Hike – Explore the newly renovated Talala Trail. Learn about Native Tall Grass Prairies, their importance and what we are doing to maintain and restore them.

  • Trail Name - Talala Trail
  • Time of event – 11:00 AM
  • Meeting location – Talala Trailhead
  • Degree of difficulty (easy, moderate, strenuous) - Easy
  • Minimum age for children (if any) - 5
  • Restrictions (no pets, registration required, etc.) - None
  • Things to bring – Weather Appropriate Clothing, Water

Hiking for Beginners Explore the 3 mile DORBA trail led by one of our DORBA Trail Stewards, Learn about No Trace principals, hiking safety, trail maintenance, and the mental and physical health benefits of hiking/running.

  • Trail Name – DORBA 3 mile Trail
  • Time of event – 9:00am
  • Meeting location – DORBA Trailhead
  • Degree of difficulty (easy, moderate, strenuous) - Moderate
  • Minimum age for children (if any) – 8
  • Restrictions (no pets, registration required, etc.) - None
  • Length of hike – 3 Miles
  • Things to bring – Weather Appropriate Clothing, Water

Group Trail Run – Go for a Group Run on the 8 mile DORBA trail led by one of our DORBA Trail Stewards, Learn about No Trace principals, hiking safety, trail maintenance, and the mental and physical health benefits of hiking/running.

  • Trail Name – DORBA 8 mile Trail
  • Time of event – 9:00am
  • Meeting location – DORBA Trailhead
  • Degree of difficulty (easy, moderate, strenuous) - Strenuous
  • Minimum age for children (if any) – 12
  • Restrictions (no pets, registration required, etc.) - None
  • Length of hike – 8 Miles
  • Things to bring – Weather Appropriate Clothing, Water
  • Additional info - Group run leader will lead a slow pace and make periodic stops to talk about the trail and CHSP. NOT A RACE.
