Project Synopsis
The Southern Gateway is a transportation project that is meant to develop long-term transportation and operational improvements improvements for the I-35E and US 67 corridors. The project targets the regional and national transportation system by increasing capacity, reducing traffic congestion, and improving mobility, design deficiencies, and system linkages. While the "design year" for this project will be 2025/2030, the overall goal of this effort is providing solutions for the next 50+ years. The Southern Gateway Project is located within the cities of Cedar Hill, Dallas, DeSoto, Duncanville and Lancaster in Dallas County.

The Southern Gateway project in Cedar Hill will
provide 6 lanes (3 in both directions), and reversible HOV/managed lanes. Currently, TxDOT is in negotiations to begin Plan, Specifications, & Engineering work to develop the Phase 1 managed HOV lanes along I-35E. It is anticipated this work will be completed in 2014-2015. The Comprehensive Development Authority will be requested to fund the managed HOV lanes.
